Lipsticks, Liquid Lipsticks, Lip Balms, Lip Scrubs. A round up of the best brands, formulas and colours available for £6.50 and under. They’re all available in the UK, most are available in the US and none are to be sniffed at for these prices. All brands, as per usual are entirely cruelty free.

  • NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick £6.50/$6.99

These are the ultimate liquid lipsticks for beginners. They come in a huge range of colours, most of which are dupes to more expensive brands such as Kat Von D, Dose of Colour and Anastasia Beverly Hills. The formula is more creamy than a usual liquid lipstick and the applicator, as shown below, makes the process of putting it on significantly less daunting as it smooths over the lips seamlessly with no chance of streaks. The range of colours means you can go bold (‘Amethyst’, ‘Orange County’ and my favourite, ‘Stone Fox’) or you can keep it neutral with ‘Tea and Cookies’, a simple babydoll pink and a dupe for ABH’s ‘Lovely’. Softspoken is a brown-toned pink whilst ‘Sandstorm’ is more cool-toned with less pink, suited to more skin with more yellow undertones.

  • MUA Lipstick £1.00

These are the cheapest of the cheap, but that doesnt mean they should be written off. MUA’s formula is a moisturising, shiny one that slicks over the lips like a lipbalm with the colour of a lipstick. Still not convinced? Make-Up Goddess Charlotte Tilbury has raved about Shade 11 in one of her tutorials on youtube. If its good enough for Charlotte Tilbury, its good enough for me and for £1 how badly wrong could it go?

  • Makeup Revolution Amazing Lipsticks £1.00

Once again, absolute bargains all round. Makeup Revolutions lipsticks have a similar formula to MUA but a far wider range of colours. If you like the look of Lime Crime but don’t fancy funding the poor business ethics they conduct or even can’t afford the international shipping rates then stop by your local superdrug for this brand. ‘Reckless’ is a classic red (which no good makeup fanatic’s collection is without), ‘The One’ is a simple nude and then they branch into the unusual with the Atomic Collection: ‘Serpent’ (deep green), ‘Magnificent’ (lilac) and ‘Make Me’ (rich, dark purple). They’re the perfect price for a experimenting with new colours.

  • Soap & Glory Sexy Motherpucker Matte-Lip 3D Lip Colour and Sculpt £3.50/$4.99

Once you get past the tongue-twisted of a name this one is plain sailing. Soap and Glory as a brand in general has never let me down, the cheeky name, good price and excellent colour pay off makes this lip crayon a must have. I own ‘Whoah Pink’ and ‘Berry Much’. Both are sheer enough that a swipe or two can give a simple look or they can be layered to leave a tint to a different lipstick or gloss. They work to plump and sculpt the lips, giving you an enhanced lip without actually putting in any work. Minimal effort for maximum effect is exactly what I’m talking about.

  • The Body Shop Born Lippy £2.00/$7.00

I have the flavour ‘strawberry’ in this one and it is to die for! It smells like a freshly opened packet of Haribos and I can’t get enough. Its a light formula that doesn’t disappear straight away but doesn’t linger too long either, perfect for daytime use rather than evening. A quick slick over the lips as you wake up will have your lips suitably primed and ready for a lipstick when you come to leave the house in the morning.

All in all these are my personal top picks for a ‘beginner’ or just someone on a budget. Naturally there are other brands and products that I also like but I tried to keep this post as concise as possible, if you’d like me to write about any other brands or products then let me know.
